Custom Umbrella Service Introduction

2025-04-06

Brief introduction of custom umbrella service offered by Hongjie, an original umbrella manufacturer in China

Custom Umbrella Service Introduction 1

Originally, Hongjie started as a factory specializing in large offline umbrella orders. However, with the rise of the internet era, we noticed many customers seeking convenient small-batch online customization. This prompted us to launch our online business and reduce minimum order quantities.

Through years of operational refinement, we successfully lowered the minimum order to just 100 units – a result of streamlining our entire supply chain while maintaining strict quality standards. Most importantly, this achievement was realized without compromising product quality. The model has proven effective in helping numerous small businesses start with smaller investments, and we take great pride in this accomplishment.

We have a wide variety of Pantone-matched colors for you to choose from. Before the production of the official order, customers can determine whether the product meets their expectations based on samples and then approve the production of the bulk order.

In short, we accept both large-batch orders (from umbrella importers or distributors) and small-batch orders (from small businesses/independent brands).

Now, as our business of production orders (with the minimum order quantity of these umbrellas set at 100 units) keeps growing, our designers will assist customers in creating designs that meet their needs. Here are the umbrella designs we currently offer:

Technical Insights & Knowledge Sharing on Custom Umbrella Service Introduction

B-end buyers often face pain points such as "distorted demand transmission", "out-of-control costs", and "uncontrollable cycles" in custom umbrella services. The following provides solutions from the dimensions of service processes and technical collaboration:

Cost Dilution Technology for Small-Batch Customization

Small orders starting from 100 units are prone to high unit prices due to "separate mold opening for personalized processes". Reduce costs through "modular design reuse": ① Standardization of general components (e.g., umbrella frames and handles use stock general models, only customizing canopies and logos), increasing mold reuse rate by 60%; ② Process priority ranking (core logos use bronzing/embroidery, non-critical areas use digital printing), reducing custom costs by 25%; ③ Agree with factories on a "process sharing pool" (partial plate-making fees will be refunded after using the same printed pattern for 3 accumulative times). This solution is especially suitable for start-up brands to control initial investment.

Precision Control Scheme for Digitalization of Design Drafts

When hand-drawn drafts are converted into production files, "proportion deviation" and "process misjudgment" are likely to occur (e.g., marking unachievable three-dimensional embroidery as flat printing by mistake). Technical prevention and control measures: ① Establish a "design anchor point labeling system" (mark logo size, distance from umbrella edge, and process code on hand-drawn drafts, such as "Pantone 18-3940C screen printing"); ② Adopt "digital sample preview" (use 3D models to display the unfolded/folded state of the canopy, exposing pattern deformation problems in advance); ③ Agree on "digital error tolerance range" (e.g., logo position deviation ≤2mm, color ΔE ≤1.5) to avoid subsequent disputes.

Process Adaptation Strategy Under Different MOQs

Not all custom processes are suitable for low MOQs (e.g., 100 units). Dynamic matching principles: ① 100-500 units: prioritize digital printing (no plate-making fees) and sticker labels (replacing embroidery), avoid bronzing (requiring more than 500 units to dilute plate fees); ② 500-1000 units: enable screen printing (unit price reduced by 30%) and laser-engraved handles (suitable for wooden/metal materials); ③ 1000+ units: unlock complex processes (e.g., umbrella rib electroplating, canopy composite coating) and support "step-by-step customization" (produce basic models first, then add personalized components later).

Risk Embedding Mechanism in the Entire Custom Service Process

Hidden risks may exist at every node from sampling to mass production. Advance prevention and control plans: ① Sampling stage: in addition to appearance confirmation, attach a "physical performance test list" (e.g., umbrella ribs resist wind for 30 openings and closings, printing resists friction for 50 times) as the acceptance standard for bulk goods; ② Mass production stage: clearly specify "milestone nodes" in the contract (e.g., provide videos of semi-finished products when production reaches 50%, allowing production suspension for rework); ③ Payment and delivery binding: 30% advance payment is only paid after "pre-production sample confirmation"; 70% balance requires "full inspection report + random sampling video" before official shipment to reduce capital risks.

Supply Chain Collaboration Technology for Cross-Border Customization

International transportation and customs clearance are likely to prolong the service cycle. Collaboration optimization measures: ① Adopt "virtual joint factory audit" (verify the flexible production capacity of factories through live broadcasts to confirm whether they can handle 100 small orders and 5000 large orders simultaneously); ② Formulate a "multi-modal transportation connection table" (recommend "express + sea freight" combinations according to order quantity, such as samples via DHL (3 days) + bulk goods via sea freight (25 days), and prepare customs clearance documents (material certificates, Pantone color number reports) 7 days in advance); ③ Reserve a "cross-border fault-tolerant period" (add 10% buffer time on the basis of the standard cycle to deal with emergencies such as port congestion).

    Frequently Asked Questions

What specific services are included in the $16 sampling fee? Does it support multiple modifications?

It includes digitalization of hand-drawn drafts and production of 1 set of basic material samples (including Pantone color card comparison). Free modifications (e.g., adjusting logo positions) are supported; additional modifications require a fee of $5-10 per time according to process complexity (e.g., $10 for replacing fabric materials). The final sampling fee will be fully refunded during mass production.

Will different material combinations affect the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

Yes. If conventional materials are selected (e.g., polyester canopy + plastic handle), the MOQ can remain 100 units; if special materials are involved (e.g., carbon fiber umbrella ribs + solid wood handles), the MOQ needs to be increased to 300 units due to long procurement cycles; mixed materials (e.g., general umbrella frames + custom limited-edition handles) can be calculated separately (200 umbrella frames + 100 handles), with a total MOQ of 200 units.

How to trace responsibilities when the quality of mass-produced goods is inconsistent with samples?

It can be solved through the "dual sample locking mechanism": both parties seal 2 sets of samples during sampling (1 set for comparison with bulk goods, 1 set for quality inspection retention), and clearly specify the error range (≤5%) of key parameters (e.g., umbrella rib wind resistance level, printing clarity) in the contract. If the deviation of bulk goods exceeds the standard, the factory shall bear the rework cost or refund in proportion (e.g., 15% refund for 10% deviation).

How to calculate the MOQ and cost of custom packaging?

For conventional customization (e.g., canvas bags with printed logos), the MOQ is the same as that of umbrellas (starting from 100 units), with a unit price of $1-3; special packaging (e.g.,天地盖 gift boxes) requires separate mold opening, with an MOQ of 500 units and a mold fee of $300-500 (which can be allocated to the unit price). It is recommended that small-batch orders choose "general packaging + custom stickers" to reduce costs by 40%.

Can the 30-45 day production cycle be expedited? How is the expediting fee calculated?

It can be expedited to 20-25 days, which requires: ① Using existing mold processes (no special mold opening); ② The factory has ready-made accessories for the customer's ordered umbrellas in stock; ③ Confirming the design plan in advance (shortening the sampling cycle to 5 days). For complex processes (e.g., laser engraving), the shortest cycle is no less than 30 days.

Is the payment node for the 30% advance payment "after sample confirmation" or "before production starts"? Can the payment ratio be adjusted?

It is strictly paid "after confirmation of pre-production samples" to avoid starting production before samples meet the standards. For long-term cooperative customers (with more than 3 orders), it can be negotiated and adjusted to "20% advance payment + 50% mid-production payment + 30% balance". The mid-production payment node is "when the production progress reaches 50% and video proof is provided" to reduce the risk of capital occupation.
